A note from the Fine Arts Coordinator,

It’s shaping up to be a wonderful spring time for the Fine Arts at IC Imagine!

There are so many amazing things happening in the Fine Arts at IC Imagine! Make sure to mark your calendars for these events coming up!

May 26-Summer Band Concert, 5:30 pm

May 28-Summer Chorus Concert, 6 pm

We do have some needs (see below) for our upcoming (May 14-16) production of the Little Mermaid. If you are able to help us with any of the following, would you please contact Mr. Campbell, bryancampbell@icimagine.org,  or Ms. Nilo, rebeccanilo@icimagine.org?

Little Mermaid Production Set Needs:

Set Strike, Saturday, May 16th: We are in need of volunteers to help with  restoring the theater by removing, hauling, sorting and storing set pieces, props, costumes and equipment and cleaning the IPAC. Students will receive service hours for their assistance, but adults are welcome too! Please click here to sign up.

Scaffolding: 3 levels of scaffolding for each side of the stage (6 total). Need a clearance between 15 and 20 feet and no more than 2-3 feet in width on the short sides.

Curtains:

  • Wings - We need curtains that can attach to the scaffolding and act as entryways/wings on both sides. Long enough to clear 15-20 feet

  • Main - We need two curtains that can act as bi-parting travelling curtains, which are also lighter and slightly sheer for our main curtain.  They should be able to cover a distance of ten feet and a height of 15-20 feet

I also want to highlight our Fine Arts Showcase, a wonderful K-12 meeting of all of the arts of IC Imagine! We will have performances from the bands, choruses, theater students, as well as an incredible K-12 art show! This will also be our final fundraiser for the year and we have many amazing offerings that will be raffled off that evening, including artwork from our Visual Arts teachers and students, tickets to next year’s theater productions, reserved seating at the band and chorus concerts, and much more! If you are interested in making a donation to the raffle, please reach out to me at melanyecrayton@icimagine.org. And definitely mark your calendars as this is NOT an event you want to miss! The date is Friday, June 5th, from 5-8 pm.

The next Fine Arts Booster Club meeting will be on Monday, May 4th, from 8:00-9:30 am, in the MS/US Chorus room. All are welcome to join us!

Make sure you're following all of the incredible Fine Arts happenings on Instagram @ICImagineFineArts!

Finally, one quick reminder, please remember that in order to participate in any IC Imagine Fine Arts event that takes place outside of school hours, students must be present for the school day for at least 3.5 hours on the day of the event. Failure to attend on the day of the event will result in not being allowed to participate in the event.

Lower School Theater

We are finishing the year with the last of our informal performances, performing for our classmates.

In 4th grade we performed shadow puppet folk tales for their 1st grade book buddies.

And in 2nd and 3rd we took turns performing readers theatre for each class.

Our informal performances will conclude with Kindergarten and 1st performing for parents to coincide with bring your family to theatre week.

Lion King Kids 2026

Middle School Theater

Both of our Middle School classes have started their rehearsals for their end of semester performances at the Fine Arts Showcase.

Theatre Arts - Beginner is currently hard at work on their sock-puppet Shakespeare adaptation of “The Comedy of Errors”.  On Thursday, students will begin building their sock puppets and props for the show.

Theatre Arts - Intermediate students have begun rehearsals for “The Phantom Tollbooth”.  Portraying such odd characters as Tock (the Watchdog), The Humbug, King Azaz, and the Mathemagician, our students are putting all of their skills to work and having a blast.

Both classes will perform their pieces at the Fine Arts Showcase on Friday, June 5.

In the Visual Arts World

Middle School Visual Art

This time of year always seems to feel like a whirlwind. We have finished our self portraits and are now in the process of finishing our skate decks. Student artists never cease to amaze me. Please look out for a new newsletter in the coming weeks. There will be so much to share and celebrate.

Upper School Visual Art

We’re Busy, Busy Busy in the US Visual Art dept. right now,  as we work to finish off the year and prepare for what will be a truly wonderful Fine Arts Showcase!!

Ceramics 1 - these classes are finishing their Face vessels - these are based off of traditional southern Face jugs.  Students focus has been on learning to build using the flat coil building method and then attaching their designed faces to the finished surface.  Here are a few just out of the first firing!

Art 3,4 are learning all about different techniques in acrylic painting. So far we have covered Glazing ( the building of thin translucent layers of paint to create the image)  and impasto ( thick, expressive paint layered on using a palette knife and brush) . They have done a great job with these techniques.  I can’t wait to see how they handle the next technique and the results!

Seniors are busy working on their Senior Tiles - everyone in the US looks forward to seeing our hallway ceilings decorated with these creative expressions of our seniors personalities.   If you have a senior, remind them that the tile should be returned to Ms. Guss by May 22nd if they want to see them up before they graduate! But I will take the tiles through the end of the year!!
