Join us in congratulating Coach Burroughs, who was named the Blue Ridge Athletic Conference’s Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach of the Year! Coach B has built an incredible culture and turned our Volleyball program into a powerhouse.
Quarter 1 ended today, and we will begin our 2nd quarter classes for 8th block. If you are a parent of a 6th grade student please see the following message.
As we begin the second quarter, our 6th-grade team has reviewed student data to ensure each child is placed in an 8th block class that best supports their academic growth. Based on this review combined with classroom observations and collaborative team discussions, students will have a change in their 8th block schedule for Quarter 2. The change will be reflected in Infinite Campus. Our data managers are currently working to update schedules and will have them complete as soon as possible.
Here’s a general overview of what track students will follow for the remainder of this year:
AVID students will continue building organization, goal-setting, and study skills.
Reading and Math Momentum classes provide additional support in literacy and math for students who need extra practice to strengthen foundational skills.
PLTW (Project Lead the Way)/ AVID students will explore hands-on STEM learning through “Space and Flight.” in either Q2 or Q3, with the other quarter being in AVID.
In Quarter 4, all students will focus on ELA and math standards they need to master or enhance through our “Finish Line / Learning Lab” courses.

October is Disability Awareness Month! We’re excited to share that a new group is forming for families and friends of our students with disabilities, with the goal of promoting inclusion, awareness, and understanding both on campus and in the wider community. As part of our celebration, we’re donating literature featuring themes of inclusion to every lower school classroom. Want to learn more or get involved? Contact Heather Cheezem at CheezemHL@icloud.com or (704) 517‑8829.
Save the Date! Unity Day is Wednesday, October 22. Wear ORANGE to show your support for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion—and to remind everyone that no child should ever experience bullying.
Lastly, the Fall Middle School Dance is happening on Friday, November 7th, from 6–8 PM. It’s sure to be a fun evening of music, dancing, and great memories! We are now accepting monetary donations through the school store in Infinite Campus to help cover the purchase of decorations and provide food for the event. Your support allows us to create a festive experience for all! Look for "Dance Donations" in the Middle School store. Tickets will go on sale soon — stay tuned for more details!
