We will communicate with stakeholders on a weekly basis. This will include updating our COVID-19 dashboard and posting it on our website. Per North Carolina General Statute 130A-143 we cannot share identifying information about positive COVID-19 cases, only the Health Department has the authority to do so. We are allowed to share that there is a positive case within our school community but cannot share details about specific classrooms, names, etc. Please do not ask us to violate the law, we will not do so.
As soon as we receive information regarding a positive case among our school community (students or staff), we will take the following steps:
- Identify and notify all close contacts. Close contacts are identified as individuals who have been within six feet for more than 15 minutes without masks on for student to student contact, or within six feet for more than 15 minutes regardless of masking for adult to student or adult to adult contact. We will communicate with all close contacts regarding the protocols that apply as outlined in the NC Public Health Toolkit.
- Contact the Buncombe County Health Department and work closely with them as we navigate each COVID case.
Clusters of COVID-19 Communication
A cluster is defined as a minimum of five cases with illness onsets or initial positive results within a 14-day period AND plausible epidemiological linkage between cases. This determination is made by the Department of Health and Human Services.
If the Buncombe County Health Department determines that there is a cluster of COVID-19 among our school community (students or staff), we will work with them as we navigate the situation and communicate about it.
